Anglo-Indian Bombay Hand Carved Sandalwood Writing Slope of generous proportions and outstanding quality. Mid Nineteenth Century.
The exterior hand carved profusely with animals and birds amongst scrolling foliage, the upper dome shaped section hinged and opening to reveal numerous lidded compartments with two secret drawer's underneath, the lower hinged fall front opening to reveal a purple velvet lined writing slope.
Condition: Good condition for such an early example with no losses to carvings. Lock and key are present and working, however, to lock it needs to be slightly pressed close by hand. The velvet inside has faded up left side and is worn where it folds. There is an old repair to one hinge, see image. Brass carrying handles are original.
